Strengthening Social Tennis: Planning for Summer

In these winter months, the Committee is working hard to plan an epic grass court season. We are looking at new ways to expand access and increase the pathways to play grass court tennis. We have updated our seasonal calendar here: https://www.rkptc.com.au/calendar.

  • Summer League Launch - 29 August: The RKPTC Summer League season starts on 19 October, and we'd love to see all our current league players as well as anyone interested in joining a team this season. Join Coaches Jake & Kurt on Saturday 29 August at 1:00 pm for an afternoon of tennis. Existing players can sharpen their skills, reconnect with teammates and get ready for the season, while new and returning players can experience what Summer League is all about.   • Friday Arvo Grass Group: Debuting this season, we are introducing 1 to 2 hour sessions led by our coaches. This is perfect for beginners or anyone looking for a refresh to help you feel confident playing on the grass.

  • Summer Arvo Intra Club Competition: Get ready for something new this summer! We're excited to launch our own Summer Arvo Intra Club Competition on grass. Designed as a fun and friendly competition, it's the perfect opportunity to enjoy some great tennis without the pressures of League competition. Whether you're looking for regular match play, a bit of healthy competition, or simply a great afternoon at the club, we'd love to have you involved. An Expression of Interest will be available soon, so keep an eye out.

  • Club Championships – 9, 10 & 11 October ($15) Whether you're a seasoned competitor or entering for the very first time, we encourage players of all standards to get involved. Club Championships are about more than just winning – they're about enjoying great tennis, challenging yourself and celebrating our wonderful club. It's the perfect way to kick off the summer tennis season before our official Opening Day on Sunday, 18 October. Managing Facilities, Finances & Risk: NextGen Negotiations

We will provide a substantive update on negotiations with NextGen in mid to late August after our discussions have concluded. We completely understand and validate the concerns of our 50 racquet-only members who have no idea if their membership will renew when those dates start to come up in September.

We are fully committed in our negotiations to secure the racquet-only tier for the future. However, we are clear that it must be on the terms that it is available to everyone, operates on a fixed season starting 1 October each year, and features a cost indexed to what other clubs charge for a similar service. This directly aligns with the pricing structure and return patronage mandates enshrined in Clause 6.2 of our Sublease.

In addition to Hot Shots, Jake is committed to hosting 2 dedicated kids' tournaments this upcoming season. The Committee has also allocated up to $2,000 to make family-friendly enhancements, like games and bean bags. Email us what you would like to see and we will try our best!

Where did our Past Presidents go?

Fear not, everyone! Our past presidents haven't vanished into thin air. They are currently resting safely in the storage area of the Members Pavilion, but they won’t be hiding in the dark for too long.

By Opening Day, they will be settled in a place of honor—right after we figure out where.

The past presidents were temporarily placed in storage while the wall that they were on was refreshed and reimagined with RKPTC heritage as the continued focus.  However, the last we heard about this from NextGen was last year despite our frequently asking what the plan is.
